Childhood

Born July 18, 1918 into a royal family. He was born in the village of Mvezo, where his father was the chief from 1880-1928. His dad had remarried numerous times, so his mom was the fourth. Nelson had 9 sisters and 3 brothers growing up as a child. Nelson's dad then died in 1927, when Mandela was 9.

Who is Nelson Mandela?

He was the first south African president who served from 1994-1999. Nelson was trying to bring an end to apartheid and global rights. Nelson was also part of the African National Congress party, which then he was a leader.

Reaction

I think it's cool to see how much Mandela has changed. He started off being born into a rich family, went to prison, and then changed the world. Mandela had a big impact on many people weather they know it or not.

Family

Mandela was married to a women of the name of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. They got married in 1958 and had 2 daughters. The 2 daughters names are Zindziswa Mandela and Zenani Mandela. Both of the sisters were born 6th months apart, so Zenani was born in 1959 and Zindzi was born in 1960.

Education

Mandela was the first in his family to get a good education. Nelson was to a missionary school and later he went to a Methodist school, where he got into boxing and track. In 1939 Nelson applied to the University of Fort Hare ( the only college that allow african americans).

Becoming President

Nelson spent almost 3 decades (27 years) in prison because he was doing what he believed in. Nelson was standing up to the government about human rights. When he came out of prison in 1990 he went straight back to eliminate the apartheid.
