Newborn Reflexes (EIGHT)
Moro Reflex
Allow the head and trunk of the infant in a semi-sitting position to fall backward to an angle of at least 30 degrees The infant's arms will symmetrically extend, and then abduct while their fingers spread out to form a "c" shape
Startle Reflex
Clap hands or make a loud noise near the baby The infant will abduct their arms at the elbows, and their hands will remain clenched
Palmar Grasp Reflex
Place a an object in an infant's palm The infant will grasp the object
Sucking and Rooting Reflex
Stroke the infant's cheek or edge of infant's mouth The infant will turn their head toward the side that is touched and starts to suck
Babinski Reflex
Stroke the outer edge of the sole of the infant's foot up and toward the toes The infant's toes will fan upward and out
Plantar Grasp Reflex
Touch the sole of the infant's foot The infant's toes will curl inward
Tonic Neck Reflex
Turn the infant's head to one side The infant should extend the arm and leg on that side and flex their arm and leg on the opposite side
Stepping Reflex
Hold the infant upright with their feet touching a flat surface The infant will make stepping movements
