Newtons First law (Law of Inertia)
Terminal velocity:
9.8 m/s/s.
What can forces be measured with?
A Newton meter.
What is friction?
A contact force that opposes motion.
What is magnetism?
A force that attracts objects.
What is gravity?
A force that pushes objects down.
What is a force?
A push or pull.
What objects are under the influence of friction?
All objects on earth.
What is inertia?
An objects resistance to change its motion.
What is buoyant force?
An upward force by fluid.
Action and Reaction forces:
Are equal, in opposite direction, and happen at the same time.
Examples:
Bat hits ball, ball hits bat. Foot pushes down on ground, ground pushes foot up.
Why should you wear seat belts in a car?
Because if you crash, the car will stop, but you will keep going. The seat belt prevents you from going forward.
Why do we see everyday objects become motionless?
Because of friction.
Objects with different masses if let go at the same time will hit at the same time:
But not with the same force.
What does an unbalanced force cause?
Change to an objects motion or shape.
If mass remains constant:
Double acceleration, double the force.
If force remains constant:
Double mass, half acceleration.
2nd Law
F=ma
What is Newtons 3rd Law?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
What is electricity?
Force of electrons.
What are the different types of force?
Gravity, Friction, Magnetism, Tension, Electrostatic, Support.
What would be categorized as an unbalanced force?
Gravity, friction, object interaction.
When rockets fly..
Its because the gas is pushing down and causes the rocket to launch upwards.
How can friction be reduced?
Lubrication, Streamlining, Slowing, Smoothing
Action and reaction pairs..
Make it possible for birds to fly.
When mass is in kilograms and acceleration is in m/s/s, the unit of force is in:
Newtons (N).
The net force of an object is equal to the:
Product of its mass and acceleration, or F=ma.
What are the different types of friction?
Sliding friction, Rolling friction, Fluid friction, Static friction.
When birds push down on the air with their wings:
The air pushes their wings and keeps them up.
What is tension?
The force caused when something is pulled tightly.
One newton is equal to:
The force required to accelerate one kilogram of mass at one m/s/s.
What is Newtons first law?
The law of inertia. It state that an object in motion will stay in motion, and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
The size of the force of the air equals:
The size of the force on the bird.
What is velocity?
The speed and direction of an object.
When object interact:
They exert forces on each other.
What makes kinetic energy?
When a force acts on a stationary object and causes motion.
When you sit in a chair:
Your body exerts a downward force on the chair. Then the chair pushes back up.
A fish pushes backward...
and the water pushes the fish forward.
Other ways to write the formula:
m=F/a, a=F/m
What is a balanced force?
objects that are stationary.
