What does the imagery suggest? "Night. No one was praying for the night to pass quickly. The stars were but sparks of the immense conflagration that was consuming us. Were this conflagration to be extinguished one day, nothing would be left in the sky but extinct stars and unseeing eyes" (21).
No one wanted the night to pass because the stars were like sparks of giant fire that was absorbing the Jews. The Jews representing the giant fire and was one day going to be extinguished and once they were, there would no longer be stars in the sky just nothingness.
