breast self-examination

a self-care procedure for the early detection of breast cancer

fibrocystic breast disease

also classified as non proliferative lesions, this represents a variety of changes in the globular and structural tissue of the breast. This affects 50% of all women and it is more identified as a change rather than a disease.

Fibroidenoma

also classified as proliferative lesions without atypia (cell abnormalities), are common slow-growing, benign solid tumors that occur in about 25% of all women and account for up to half of all the breast biopsies.

mastitis

an infection of the inflammation of the connective tissue in the breast that occurs primarily in lactating or engorged women.

Benign Breast Disorders

mammography

simple mastectomy

is the removal of all the breast tissue, the nipple, and the areola

modified radical mastectomy

removal of the breast tissue, and a few positive axially lymph nodes.

breast cancer

a carcinoma that develops from the cells of the breast and can spread to adjacent lymph nodes and other body sites

breast conserving surgery

the least invasive procedure, is the wide local excision (or lumpectomy) of the tumor along with a 1-cm margin of normal tissue

endocrine therapy

therapy aimed at reducing hormone levels that may continue to foster growth of the tumor.
