Order of Operations and Exponents
Power (exponential form)
A base with an exponent
exponent
A mathematical notation indicating the number of times a quantity is multiplied by itself.
expanded form (exponents)
A way of writing numbers involving exponents that shows the base as a factor.
Communative Property
Order doesn't matter, a+b=b+a (addition), ab=ba (Multiplication)
Base (of an exponential expression)
The number that is multiplied "exponent" number of times in an exponential expression
Associative Property
The way in which numbers are grouped does not change their sum or product
Distributive Property
a(b + c) = ab + ac
Order of Operations
the order in which operations in an expression to be evaluated are carried out. 1. grouping symbols 2. exponets 3. multiplication and divison 4. addition and subtraction
