Palatines
perpindicular plate
appressed tightly to the posteromedial wall of the maxilla... opposite to the maxillary sinus, between pterygoid plates of the sphenoid and posterior margin of the alveolar process of the maxilla
pterygopalatine canal
becomes visible (sweeps posterosuperiorly) when the maxilla and perpindicular plate of the palatine are disarticulated
horizontal plate of palatine bone
forms posterior third of the hard palate
posterior nasal spine
located on the superior surface of the horizontal plate
pyramidal process of palatine
posterior border of the perpendicular plate is the thickets border... bears a serrated groove that articulates with the medial pterygoid plate of the sphenoid
Lesser palatine foramina
posterolateral corner of the hard palate, posterior to the greater palatine foramina, near the junction of the perpendicular and horizontal plates
conchal crest
subhorizontally oriented crest placed not quite halfway up the perpendicular plate on the medial surface of the plate... for articulation with the inferior nasal concha
Greater palatine foramen
Perforates the rear corner of the hard palate and is formed as the alveolar process of the maxilla meets the horizontal plate of palatine... transmits greater palatine vessels and nerve
