cabinet

A body of high-ranking state officials, typically consisting of the top leaders of the executive branch and who preside over the executive departments or ministries. Members of a cabinet are usually called secretaries or ministers.

line-item veto

Also called the partial veto, a special form of veto power that authorizes chief executives to reject particular provisions of a bill enacted by a legislature without vetoing the entire bill.

board and commissions

Independent bodies consisting of members who are appointed by public officials, usually the Governor. Such bodies with Gubernatorial appointments are created in two ways, either by statute enacted in the State Legislature, or by a Governor's Executive Order.

superagencies

Large government agencies overarching or constituted by several smaller agencies.

informal powers
