Reason to memorize scriptures (Richard G. Scott)

Living the law of chastity
Blessed are the peacemakers (peace with God and ourselves as well as peace with others) for they shall be called the children of God (Matthew 5:9), When we live the law of chastity, we can testify that it brings peace (but so do all commandments), It can teach us fidelity, trust, love at a level that is required to build and maintain relationships (in the temple we united families for eternity)
The law of the gospel
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God (Matthew 8), The pure in heart represent us as we internalize and live the law of the gospel (concerned about our internal motives as well as our external actions), The law of the gospel helps us lift our motives above just obeying and sacrificing for the sake of obeying and sacrificing. Now we do what we do because we love God and our fellow men
The law of consecration
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is your reward in heaven. , It is not uncommon to receive persecution as we draw closer to Christ. In fact, the more we devote ourselves to God and his work, the more we are persecuted. , As we mature spiritually, such persecution can strengthen us and prepare us to take our places in the kingdom of God on earth and in the kingdom of heaven., The law of consecration is a perspective shift. All that we are doing is to build the kingdom of God and that allows us to experience joy.

John was bringing jews to the promised land. Baptisms were done in Bethabara, sacred place to heritage. He baptized in the river Jordan. It was a place people knew and it was a special place that was sacred in their era. It was like the sacred grove. This was where Joshua brought all the children of Israel into the promised land. He was bringing the Jews to the promised land - the kingdom of God. THis is the place where Elijah went up into heaven. This was the lowest spot in the valley. Symbol of humility and burial and resurrection of a new life, Lowest body of water near lowest point on earth. By being baptized here, Christ literally descended BELOW all things.

Jesus' teaching about divorce
People often feel hurt by this story, but there is no condemnation in this scripture, put away is the same meaning as being separated. Whosoever shall separate from his wife, give her a writing of divorcement, and whosoever that is separated from her (without written divorce) committeth adultery. One reason for divorse is for the cause of fornication, or abuse. A writing of divorcement means legally divorced. But those that are only divorced means they were just separated. IF you are living together without being married, it really is being committed adultery unless they are legally divorced. Jesus understands there are reasons for divorce. Jesus is just saying 'let's make sure the divorce is done legally.'

Christ's response when Peter declared himself to be a sinful man
Scholars debate whether Peter was a poor, rich, educated, or not. He was a successful multicultural businessman and polished writer. He declares that he is a sinful man after capturing all of those fish, and Christ tells him to fear not, for He would make Peter a fisher of man. Perhaps as a sinful man he would have experiences that can help teach other men.

Truth that separates humans from animals and plants
We are not God's creations in the way that we'd create a gingerbread man or a puppet. What separates us from animals and plants (other creations) is the relationship that we have with God—we are His children., He clothed our essences with spirit (or however the specific way Bro WIlcox said it was)

We weren't created for His own purpose—as our Father, He is a Heavenly Mentor who endows spirit matter with the form and conditions conducive to full emulation in Him.
