Zygomatic Minor (Location and Description)

Muscle of the face.

Masseter (Function)

A Muscle of mastication. It closes the mandible.

Temporalis (Location and Description)

A broad muscle arising in the temporal cavity and inserting in the mandible.

Digastric (Location and Description)

A double-bellied muscle of the neck, which attaches to the mastioid process and the mandible.

Orbicularis Oris (Location and Description) Puckering Muscle

A flat band of muscles in the upper and lower red lips and integumentary lips.

A muscle arising from the zygomatic arch and inserting in the mandible.

Depressor Anguli Oris (Location and Description.) TRIANGULARIS

A muscle of facial expression that arises from the mandible to insert into the anguli oris.

Levator Palpebrae (Location and Description)

A muscle of facial expression that runs from the inside of the eye socket to the superior tarsal plate of the eyelid.

Depressor Labii Inferioris (Location and Description) QUADRATUS

A muscle of facial expression.

Levator Labii Superioris (Location and Description)

A muscle of facial expression.

Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi (Location and Description)

A muscle of facial expression.

Temporalis (Function)

A muscle of mastication and is the strongest chewing muscle. It closes the mandible. Assist in side-to-side movement of the mandible.

Corrugator (Location and Description)

A pyramid-shaped muscle of facial expression. This muscle lies beneath the frontalis and orbicularis oculi. Known as the FROWNING MUSCLE.

Levator Anguli Oris (Location and Description)

A small muscle the angle of the mouth.

Sternocleidomastoid (Location and Description)

A thick muscle that originates from the head of the sterum and clavical, and inserts at the mastioid process of the temporal bone.

Orbicularis Oris (Function) Puckering Muscle

Closes the lips. Compresses lips against teeth. Shapes lips during speech.

Buccinator (Function) TRUMPETERS MUSCLE

Compresses the cheek, and it pulls the anguli oris posteriorly. It produces the action of sucking.

Depressor Anguli Oris (Function) TRIANGULARIS

Depresses the angle of the mouth.

Depressor Labii Inferioris (Function)

Depresses the lower lip inferiorly and slightly laterally.

Risorius (Function) FALSE SMILING MUSCLE

Draws corners of the mouth posteriorly.

Digastric (Function)

Draws the Hyoid bone superiorly.

Corrugator (Function)

Draws the eyebrows inferiorly and medially, as in frowning.

Procerus (Function)

Draws the skin of the forehead inferiorly, causing transverse and vertical wrinkles in the forehead.

Zygomatic Major (Function) LAUGHING MUSCLE

Draws the upper lip posteriorly, superiorly, and laterally as in smiling or laughing.

Zygomatic Minor (Function)

Draws the upper lip superiorly and laterally.

Mentalis (Function)

Elevated and protrudes the lower lip. It also wrinkles the skin over the chin.

Levator Anguli Oris (Function)

Elevated the angle of the mouth.

Levator Labii Superioris (Function)

Elevates and extends the upper lip.

Zygomatic Major (Location and Description) LAUGHING MUSCLE

Extends from the cheekbone to the angle of the mouth.

Risorius (Location and Description) FALSE SMILING MUSCLE

Extends from the skin over the masseter muscle to the corners of the mouth.

Levator Palpebrae (Function)

Raises the upper eyelid.

Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi (Function)

Raises the upper lip and dilates the nostrils.

Sternocleidomastoid (Funtion)

Rotates and depresses the head.

Buccinator (Location and Description) Trumpeters Muscles. TRUMPETERS MUSCLE

The principle muscle of the cheek. Originates in the skin over the molar teeth and inserts into the skin at the anguli oris (corners of the mouth) It makes up part of the angulus oris eminences.

Orbicularis Oculi (Location and Description)

The sphincter muscle surrounds the eye socket.

Platysma (Location and Description)

Thin layer of muscle covering the anterior aspect of the neck.

Occipitofrontalis (Location and Description)

This broad muscle covers the top of the skull. It consists of two parts, the occipitalis, or back part, and the frontalis, or front part.

Procerus (Location and Description)

This muscle covers the bridge of the nose.

Occipitofrontalis (function)

This muscle draws the scalp posteriorly and anteriorly, causing eyebrows to raise and wrinkles to form on the forehead.

Mentalis (Location and Description)

This muscle is located on the tip of the chin.

Orbicularis Oculi (Function)

This sphincter muscle surrounds the eye socket.

Platysma (Function)

Wrinkles the skin of the neck and chest. Also depresses the mandible and anguli oris, as in pouting.
