Science Grade 6- Triple Beam Balance
Find The Mass Of A Substance
1. Find the mass of the container AND substance 2. Find the mass of JUST the container 3. Subtract to find the difference of the 2 numbers
Indicator
If each rider is set to a number, to know what the mass is you would see if the pointer is pointing to zero. That indicates that the numbers are balanced with the object. Then you would add up the numbers to find the mass in grams (g).
You move the balancing nut towards you
The pointer goes down
You move the balancing nut away from you
The pointer goes up
The 3 Beams
each beam is in different increments of 10. The order is 100's, 10's, and 10ths. Usually, the 100's beam is in the middle, the 10's beam farthest from you, and the 10ths beam is the beam closest
Mass
the amount of matter in an object. In scientific terms we only ask for the mass of an object NEVER the weight. The SI unit is kilograms (kg). The smaller unit is gram. (g).
Weight
the measure of the force of gravity on you
Pan
the place you put the object on
Triple Beam Balance
used to find the mass of an object
