The South immediately took control of all Federal property with the exception of Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, and Castle Pinckney. Lincoln was determined to resupply Fort Sumter. When he tried to do so, the South attacked Fort Sumter, signaling the beginning of the Civil War.
