FINAL GRADES

-This course is NOT curved. However, final grades may be "curved up" if the course average and distribution is lower than expected. The grades will never be curved down -Aiming for class average of 75-80% (C-B Range) -Final grades will be adjusted ONLY if the average falls below 75%

EZRA'S FARM CHORES 50PTS

Each chore is worth 10pts • Students sign in using a QR code, and the TA confirms identity • Sign in will be time stamped, so sign in immediately • Students must be early (early is on time) for their chores • 0.5 points will be deducted for every minute late • A student who is 20 minutes late for chores will receive a 0 (the chores are done!) • Students may switch 1 chore with another student • The student must identify someone to switch with • The student must notify the TAs of the switch with 24 hours notice

FINAL EXAM 150PTS

• Final exam is scheduled by the University and will be posted later. • DO NOT plan to leave campus before 12/16 until the final exam schedule is finalized. This applies to your other classes as well. • Final exams are 2.5 hours • Final is cumulative and will cover all the material learned in lecture and lab. • Format is similar to preliminary exams, but it will cover more material. • A practice exam will NOT be provided for the final

UNDERGRADUATE REVIEW SESSIONS

• Quiz: Evening before the quiz (typically Sunday) • Exam: Wednesday evening the week of the exam. Morrison 174

HOW TO STUDY

• Read the text before class • Study consistently and do not wait until the exam • everyday, 3-9 hours/week • Begin studying for exams ~1 week in advance • Handwrite notes! • Organize and re-write notes and/or make study sheets • Consult book for clarification • Form study groups and teach each other • Draw everything. Get a white board. • Synthesize a visual diagram or flowchart based on written text

PERSONAL INTRODUCTION

• Required, in that it is worth 10 points, but I can't make you submit it. • No rules, requirements or regulations

CHICKEN + BOVINE DISSECTION PROJECTS 150PTS

• Students will work in groups to complete a multimedia project that can be used as a tool to teach anatomy • Chicken Movie and Bovine Website • Each project is worth 75 points • 50 points project • 10 points peer grading • 15 points team member evaluation • Students will receive some time to work on projects during lab, but much of the work will occur outside of class time

LECTURE QUIZZES 100PTS

• There will be 15 quizzes given weekly throughout the semester • The first day of the academic week (usually Mondays) • Each quiz is worth 10 pts • Cover 2-3 previous lectures • True/False, Labeling, Multiple Choice, Matching • 10 minutes for the quiz (11:55 - 12:05) • CLOSED NOTE Canvas logs will be checked after each quiz. *Drop 5 lowest*

PARTICIPATION (LECTURE) 10PTS

• There will be ~15 different opportunities to gain points (1 pt each), but total points will be capped at 10 pts. • Poll Everywhere, Discussions on Canvas, Lecture Exercises, Practice Exams

Vocabulary QUIZ

• You will be provided a list of key words with definitions. • Vocabulary quiz will be given on Canvas during Lab 3. • Vocabulary Quizzes are closed-note and timed (~10 minutes)

LAB QUIZZES 50PTS

• A lab quiz will be given for each lab (8 total) • Lab quizzes will cover the material learned in the previous week's lab • Each quiz is worth 10 points • Quizzes are given on PAPER at the beginning of the lab period • Quizzes will take 10-15 minutes • Quizzes are closed-note *Drop 3 lowest*

VIOLATIONS OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

EXTRA CREDIT & BONUS PTS

-Bonus points will be given on each exam and each lecture quiz. -Each lecture quiz will have a bonus question worth 1 point. Each quiz will still be graded out of 10 points, but students have the potential to earn 11 points on each quiz. For example, a student who gets two questions wrong on the quiz, will receive a 9/10 as their grade, and a student who gets all the questions correct will receive an 11/10. -Other extra credit opportunities may be offered throughout the semester but are not guaranteed. Any opportunities will be announced on Canvas.

EZRA'S FARM CHORES

• Chores occur outside of class/lab period at 8 am and 5 pm • Students are assigned 5 chores throughout the semester.

PARTICIPATION (LAB) 20PTS

• Each lab will have participation exercises associated with it (2-4 points per lab). • Exercises are outlined on a separate document and completed during the lab period. • The document is turned in at the end of the lab, no later than 5 pm the day of your lab.

EXAM EXTENSION

• Each students gets 1 x 24-hour extension on an exam • Exam extensions given the Saturday after the exam from 11:15-12:05 in Morrison 146

ACCOMMODATIONS, ATHLETICS, & SDS

Student Athletes: Please provide a schedule of your meets/games/matches as soon as possible and let the instructor know of any conflicts, particularly with exams and Ezra's Farm chores Working/Employed: If you currently work a part-time or full-time job, please reach out to the instructor if you have conflicts with assessments. SDS: Official documentation is needed to receive accommodations, so please work with SDS as soon as possible.

MAKE-UP POLICY

THERE ARE NO MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZZES OR EXAMS! o To compensate for this and provide more flexibility, you are allowed an extension on 1 exam, and you may drop 5 lecture quizzes and 3 lab quizzes.

PRE-LABS 40PTS

• 9 pre-labs in total: 1 for labs 1-7 labs and 2 for lab #8 • Each pre-lab is worth 5 points • Pre-Labs must be completed before your scheduled lab • Your lowest pre-lab will be dropped • OPEN NOTE NOT TIMED *You may use lab and lecture resources, and you may work with a friend*

LAB STRUCTURE

• 1 lab per week. Tuesday or Wednesday from 1:25-4:25 pm in room 174. • Reinforces lecture material and provides hands-on experiences • Animal handling, dissections, using the microscope, group projects, games and exercises • Pre-labs, lab quizzes, lab exercises/participation.

PRELIMINARY EXAMS (PRELIMS) 300PTS

• 3 exams worth 100 points each • Exams are given on paper during the lecture period. Exams are on Fridays.

EZRA'S FARM DETAILS

• 5 species housed in the Teaching Barn off Campus Rd. • Bull calves, horses, sheep, chickens, pigs • Ezra's Farm Chores • Chores occur outside of class/lab period at 8 am and 5 pm • Chores should take 20-30 minutes • Students are randomly assigned to groups of 5-6 students, and each student completes 5 chores.
