Obesity

-BMI of 30 or higher -waist girth over 102 cm or 40 in for men -waist girth over 88 cm or 35 in for women

Dyslipidemia

-LDL cholesterol over 130 mg/dL (3.37 mol/L) -HDL cholesterol under 40 mg/dL (1.04 mmol/L) -on lipid-lowering medication -serum cholesterol over 200 mg/dL (5.18 mmol/L)

Cigarette smoking

-current smoker -quit within 6 months -exposure to environmental tobacco smoke(second hand smoke)

Sedentary lifestyle

-doesn't participate in at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical acivity (40 to 60%VO2 max) on at least 3 days a week for at least 3 months

Prediabetes

-fasting plasma glucose over 100 mg/dL(5.55 mmol/L) but under 125 mg/dL (6.94 mmol/L) -impaired glucose tolerance where a 2-hr oral glucose tolerance test value is over 140 mg/dL (7.77 mmol/L) but under 199 mg/dL (11.04 mmol/L) -confirmed by measurements on at least 2 separate occasions

Family history

-myocardial infarction -coronary revascularization -sudden death before 55 years of age in father or other first degree male relative -sudden death before 65 years of age in mother or other first-degree female relative

Hypertension

-systolic blood pressure over 140 mmHg -diastolic blood pressure over 90 mmHg -confirmed by at least 2 measurements -on antihypertensive measurements

Positive Risk Factors for cardiovascular disease

1. Age 2. Sedentary lifestyle 3. cigarette smoking 4. Family history 5. Prediabetes 6. hypertension 7. Dyslipimedia 8. Obesity

Negative risk factor

HDL greater than 60 mg/dL
