Thirty Years War

"Series of wars" Startes in 1618- when the Austrian Habsburgs tried to impose Roman Catholicism on their protestants subjects in Bohemia.

The agreement

6 months were taken by arguing about who sat where and who was to go ahead of whom. French and Spanish envoys (representitive or messenger) never met due to the "correct protocol" could not be agreed.

Envoys

A postal system handles reams of letters between to envoys at a time - took 10 days or more to recieve.

The Treaty or Peace Conference

Opened on December 1644 in Münster and Osanbrück to end the war. Involved no less than 194 states.

The Treaty of Westphalia

Signed on October 24, 1648, officially marked the end of The Thirty Year's War.

Slowly deals were hammered out- it took almost 3 weeks to organize the signing ceremony, which did commence in the afternoon of October 24, 1648.
