Goblet of Fire
Flame-filled wooden cup which is the impartial selector of Triwizard champions. Students place their name in the Goblet, the Goblet then chooses one student from each school by spitting out their name in a rush of red flames. Once chosen the participants are subject to a binding magical contract in which they can not back out of the tournament.
Lord Voldemort
Formerly known as Tom Marvolo Riddle and commonly referred to as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. The most powerful Dark wizard of all time. (The Dark Lord).
Fleur Delacour
French student who participated in the Triwizard Tournament representing Beauxbatons, later married Bill Weasley.
Hedwig
Harry Potter's pet snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus). Hedwig was an 11th birthday gift from Rubeus Hagrid to Harry. Hagrid purchased her at the Eeylops Owl Emporium. In addition to the usual use Owls are put to, delivering mail, Hedwig was also a close companion to Harry. She remained one of his closest friends right up to her death during the Battle of the Seven Potters at the height of the Second Wizarding War.
Sirius Black

The Dark Mark
The symbol in the sky to beckon Voldemort's cronies, also a tattoo on the arm that he uses to call them. It is an image of a snake coming out of the mouth of a skull.
Muggle-Born
The term given to a witch or wizard who is born to two non-magical parents. Their magical abilities do not seem to be at all affected by their Muggle parentage.
The Unforgivable Curses
Three of the most powerful and sinister spells known to the wizarding world. They are tools of the Dark Arts and were first classified as "Unforgivable" in 1717, with the strictest penalties attached to their use. The three curses consist of the Killing Curse (Avada Kedavra), Cruciatus Curse (Crucio), and Imperius Curse (Imperio).

Cedric Diggory
a British wizard who was the son of Amos Diggory and his wife. He started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1989, and was sorted into the Hufflepuff House. During his time at school he was a prefect and captained the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, playing as Seeker. In his sixth year Cedric put his name forward to compete in the Triwizard Tournament.

Harry Potter
a half-blood wizard, one of the most famous wizards of modern times. He was the only child and son of James and Lily Potter (née Evans), both members of the original Order of the Phoenix. Harry's birth was overshadowed by a prophecy, naming either himself or Neville Longbottom as the one with the power to vanquish Lord Voldemort.
Order of the Phoenix
a secret society founded by Albus Dumbledore to oppose Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. The original Order was created in the 1970s. It was constructed after Voldemort returned to England from abroad and started his campaign to take over the Ministry of Magic and persecute Muggle-borns. The Order worked with the Ministry to oppose the Dark Lord and his followers, and played a crucial role in the First Wizarding War. Their first victory came in 1981, with Voldemort's first defeat at the hands of Harry Potter. The victory came with the high cost of many of their members.

Durmstrang Institute
the Northern wizarding school. Located in the far north of Europe. The school is willing to accept international students as far as Bulgaria. Having existed since at least 1294, Durmstrang is one of the three schools that compete in the Triwizard Tournament, and is notorious for prominently featuring the Dark Arts in its curriculum.
Death Eaters
the name given to the most ardent followers of Lord Voldemort. The group primarily consisted of wizards and witches who were radical pure blood supremacists who practised the Dark Arts with reckless abandon and without regard to or fear of wizarding law.
Mudblood
An offensive term to describe a witch or wizard who isn't pure blood such as a muggle-born.

A half-blood witch and Ministry of Magic bureaucrat who served as Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic under Ministers Cornelius Fudge, Rufus Scrimgeour, and Pius Thicknesse.
Dobby the House Elf
A house-elf who served the Malfoy family. During Harry Potter's second year at Hogwarts, he tried to warn the boy of the plot to have the Chamber of Secrets reopened. The same year, Harry freed Dobby from the Malfoys, by giving him one of his socks. Dobby then went on to work in the Hogwarts kitchens.
The Triwizard Tournament
A magical contest held between the three largest wizarding schools of Europe: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Durmstrang Institute, and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, each school being represented by one Champion. Selected Champions compete in three tasks — traditionally judged by the Headmasters or Headmistresses of the competing schools — designed to test magical ability, intelligence, and courage. Champions competed for the honour and glory of winning the Tournament, for the Triwizard Cup, and a monetary prize.

A wizarding sport played on broomsticks. It is the most popular game and most well-known game among wizards and witches, and, according to Rubeus Hagrid, the equivalent to Muggles' passion for football.
Sorcerer Stone
Also known as the Philosopher Stone, an artificial, rufescent stone with magical properties. It could be used to create the Elixir of Life, which extended the drinker's lifespan, as well as transform any metal into pure gold. The Stone was created by the famed alchemist Nicolas Flamel.
Professor Albus Dumbledore
An English half-blood wizard, who was the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, later the Transfiguration Professor, and later Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Quidditch World Cup
An International competition held every four years. Quidditch teams represent countries around the world and compete for the World Cup.
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic
An all girls French wizarding school, located in the Pyrenees mountains of southern France. The school takes many of its students from France, as well as large numbers from Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium. It's unknown if students from other countries are allowed. The school's coat of arms consists of two golden wands crossed over one another, each shooting three stars.
Yule Ball
