Horizontal merger

A horizontal merger is the merger of two firms in the same line of business. This form of merger results in the expansion of a firm's operations in a given product line and at the same time eliminates a competitor.

Conglomerate merger

A merger between firms that are involved in totally unrelated business activities.

Congeneric merger

A type of merger where two companies are in the same or related industries but do not offer the same products.

Vertical merger

different production stages of same product. A vertical merger occurs when two or more firms, operating at different levels within an industry's supply chain.
