Unit 6 Erik Erikson's stages (By: Sofia)
Generativity vs. Stagnation
Generativity is making a positive impact and contributing to the world, and if you don't do that, stagnation could occur where you feel unproductive and stuck. (Lacking a sense of purpose)
Identity vs Role Confusion
"who am I?" - conflicted by thinking about who they should be and what they should think.
Intimacy vs Isolation
Intimacy is being able to open up romantically and emotionally to someone. If you cannot form an intimate relationship, isolation can occur.
Industry vs Inferiority
A child is learning new skills and if they do well with it they feel useful. If not, they may feel worthless or inferior
Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
Erikson's stage in which a toddler learns to exercise will and to do things independently; failure to do so causes shame and doubt
Trust vs Mistrust
Infants learn to trust that their caregivers will provide them with basic needs. If not met, mistrust and anxiety may occur.
Initiative vs Guilt
Initiative is developing leadership skills, and failure of it can lead to guilt.
Ego Integrity vs Dispair
Looking back on your life and feeling well accomplished (integrity) or regretting choices / missed opportunities (dispair)
