England thrived and colonies struggled because they only had one direct line for trade and were essentially controlled by England.
Economy Relationship Between Colonies & England
England was a monopoly to the colonies by enforcing acts that restricted trade with other countries. Produced manufactured products from raw goods the colonies were required to ship to England. England bought the raw goods and sold them back at a higher cost to make a profit. Colonies became dependent and mother country gained extra resources, power, and better positioning for war.
How is England controlling colonies?
Navigation Act- passed by parliament that controlled colonial trade Dominion of New England- made north one large colony under British control Sent Sir Edmund Andros to govern the dominion for the King and report back to him/ enforce his laws Glorious Revolution- passed laws that gave greater power to the king Took away Massachusetts' colony's charter and made it a royal colony.
