Video Quizlet
Intercutting or Parallel Editing
Creating a narrative by cutting between two different scenes/locations. For example, in the film Salamander by Tanya Syed, action is intercut between the interior of a fast food takeaway, and the exterior nocturnal cityscape.
Editing for Screen Position
Having the viewer's eyes being directed to a certain part of the screen i.e. a character looks down - the next shot is a downward looking shot or reveals what the character is looking at.
Synopsis
One or two lines that clearly explains the main point of your video or the basic plot of your story.
Editing for Ideas
Two different scenes that are linked by the repetition of an idea or action. For example a woman pours a drink, and in the next scene in a clearly different location, a man takes a drink. So a connection is made between the two different spaces, simply by the common idea of a drink.
Editing for Form
You can use positive and negative space to create edits. Look at the composition of the image and either invert the positive and negative space or find a similar form to edit.
The Axis of Interaction/180 degree rule
an invisible line between two actors that the camera can only shoot on one side of; maintains screen direction; keeps actors in a conversation looking like they are in the same position
Editing For Action
is called the plastic cut. Movement within the frame is carried across a cut. Action is seamless - edits are not noticed by the viewer.
