Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. Recycle. Adjust your thermostat. Reduce the temperature of your water heater. Unplug appliances that are not in use. Which statement best describes how the information above relates to human activities?

Nations of the world can work together to use energy more efficiently.

Explain the reasons why the study of geography is important and how it affects your life.

Well, first of all, the earth is your home. It's where you live. Although you may be a citizen of the United States or another country, or perhaps even have dual citizenship, you are also a citizen of the world. The earth and its citizens are connected. Nations and their populations depend on each other for the food they eat, the clothes they wear, and the technology they use each day. World events affect you! Events do not happen in isolation. What happens in one country frequently affects people in other nations. Studying geography helps us see these relationships as well as the earth's patterns. The study of geography also provides the setting for historical events and gives us a much greater depth of understanding. Knowledge of geography and the role it has played in history helps us plan for the future. It helps us make sense of the challenges we face as world citizens. The study of geography provides the tools needed to analyze the patterns that exist, evaluate the challenges they represent, and implement solutions.

Briefly compare and contrast the two disciplines, geography and geology

Yes, and no. Both disciplines study the earth. Geography studies the earth's physical and human features and the interactions between the two. Geology studies the surface of the earth as well, but it also digs deeper, examining the earth's internal processes.

physical processes

activities occurring in nature that shape the earth's surface

How do the earth's physical features affect people's activities?

choice of occupation method of transportation recreational activities

human systems

processes initiated by people that shape earth's surface and interact with plant and animal life to create, sustain, and modify ecosystems

Which of the following are examples of physical systems?
