What is WHMIS?

(WHMIS)- Is a Canada-wide system designed to give employers and workers information about hazardous materials used in the workplace.

Ministry of Labour Inspectors.

The Employer Passes Information WHMIS to

Passes the information on to the worker and provides education programs.

Right to KNOW WHMIS. Right to View labels and MSDSs. Right to Received instruction and Training.

The Supplier PassesInformation WHMIS to

The hazardous material provides the labels and material safety data sheets to the employer.

Worker Responsibilities

To report the absence of an MSDS for a new product, or the fact that a label had become ILLEGIBLE.

Yes, 3yrs after MSDS was prepared

Are there any EXEMPTIONS from the federal WHMIS Legislation?

Yes, Explosives Act, Food and Drugs Act, Pest Control Product Act, and Nuclear Energy Act.
