Restore Down

A button in the upper right corner of a Window that has two squares in it. When clicked, it returns the window to its previous size. When the window is at its previous size, the button switches to the maximize button, which returns the window to its maximum size.

Maximize

A button in the upper right corner of a Window with a square in it. When clicked, it enlarges the window to its largest size. When the window is already at its largest size, this button switches to the restore button, which returns the window to its previous size.

Desktop

The area of the monitor that you see. It has icons for common applications and for documents or images saved to this location.

Start Menu

The button to open this is located in the bottom left corner of the Desktop (the farthest left icon on the task bar.)

Close

This is also called an "exit" button. Clicking or tapping the X removes the current window, dialog box or popup message from the screen.

Minimize

This looks like an underscore character. It will temporarily hide the document or application from view without closing it. In Windows, a button for the open app/doc is added to the taskbar so that you may have easy access to it.

Right-Click

This provides additional functionality to a computer's mouse, usually in the form of a drop-down menu containing additional options.
