Document
A file created using a word processor
Landscape Orientation
A page layout where text prints across the wider portion of the page.
Default
A setting that is automatically used unless another option is chosen.
Font Size
Determines the height of characters. Measured in units called points.
Right Align
Ends all lines of the paragraph at the right margin.
Graphics
Items other than text including photos, clip art, and drawing objects.
Bold
Makes text darker and adds emphasis.
Clipart
Prepared pictures and other artwork you can insert into a document.
Italicize
Slants text to the right.
Left Align
Starts all lines of the paragraph at the left margin.
Footer
Text and/or graphics printed at the bottom of each page.
Header
Text and/or graphics printed at the top of each page.
Justify
Text is aligned to both the left and right margins.
Center Align
Text is typed evenly between the left and right margins.
undo
The command used to reverse one or a series of editing actions.
Alignment (Left, Center, Right, Justify)
The horizontal positioning of text.
To make a hard copy of the document.
Scroll
To move (using scroll boxes or scroll arrows) through a list, a block of text, a document, or any display larger than the current window or screen.
Save
To store a file in a set place on a computer or other device
Crop
To trim a graphic.
Bullets
Used to arrange items in a list with each item beginning with a bullet.
Numbering
Used to arrange items in a list with each item beginning with a number.
Copy and Paste
a feature that allows a user to select text or a graphic, duplicate it and place it in another location within a document
Cut and paste
a feature that allows a user to select text or a graphic, remove it from its current location and place it in another location within a document
Drag and Drop
a feature that allows a user to select text using a mouse or pointing device, and quickly move it to a different location
Thesaurus
a feature that allows the user to view synonyms and antonyms, and automatically replace words for enhanced writing
Template
a feature that includes pre-made documents that allow the user to fill-in-the blanks to create new documents, such as calendars, invoices, reports, resumes, etc.; enhances user's efficiency and creativity
Spell Check
a feature used to automatically locate and correct spelling errors
Tab Stop
a formatting feature that allows the user to control where a line of text will be entered and how the text will be aligned; so that when the tab key is pressed, the insertion the insertion point will move to that location
Portrait Orientation
a page layout in which documents are printed across the width of a page, making the page taller than it is wide
Table
a set of data arranged in a grid of rows and columns
Format
in word processing, to utilize features that enhance the appearance and overall layout of text, graphics, tables within a document
Word Art
text created as a graphic image
Line spacing
the amount of space between lines of text
Font
the style and design of text
Word processing
the use of software application to create, edit, format, print and save text-based documents, such as letters, reports, and memos
Margins
the white space surrounding the content of a page at the top, bottom, left and right sides
rename
to change the title of a document
Edit
to make changes by adding, deleting, or modifying text, graphics, or other items in a document
Underline
used to place a line under text
