Describe an obstacle you faced and how you overcame it/a challenge/adversity?

A huge obstacle I faced was moving from Cincinnati Oh to here in Augusta halfway through my freshman year. It was a huge change for me and my family. I had to leave all my friends behind that I have been friends with since 2nd grade. And go into a school where people have been friends since kindergarten. It was a whole new environment and I moved a week before going to a brand new school. The whole community was very different and it was hard having to start brand new halfway through. I had no friends and didn't know the routes of the school. But I put myself out there and reached out to people. I made new friends very quickly and became involved. It was a very big change in my life and a huge obstacle I had to overcome. But now I have been here for a year and now Augusta feels like home.

How do you study

Finding a good way to study is very important to succeed in any class. I study a lot ahead of time for my classes. I usually like to find a quiet place to study whether that's my screen porch or my room. I like to make flashcards or quizlets to get all of the information down. If I know that I have a test later in the week I make sure to start studying a little bit each day, just so I don't do things at the last minute. I like to study independently but also with my twin sister. Since I have many of the same classes as her it's nice to share ideas and get information from each other. It's nice to have someone quiz you and I think it's a very effective way to study

Any questions for us?

How will I stay connected with you even after this is over?

What personal/and or academic accomplishment are you most prod of and why?

I am most proud of making the world finals for Highland dance. I placed 4th in my age group against all of the girls whom do highland dance. It was a huge accomplishment for me as I practiced every day for multiple hours to work up to get that good. I had to practice and self-motive myself to stay at that world-class level. It was a lot of dedication as I had to miss out on hanging with my friends and also school. I went to many competitions all around the world including the US, Canada, and Europe. I also had an injury days before the world championships and I wasn't sure If I could go out and dance, but I persevered and danced because I knew I worked to hard to give up. All of my hard work finally paid off and I met my goal. Highland dance taught me a lot and gave me lots of life skills. I had to sacrifice a lot to get to that level.

Why did you apply for youth leadership/why do you want to be apart of youth leadership? How

I applied because some of my friends did youth leadership last year and in the years previous, they told me how much this experience has impacted them and their lives. They told me it's an experience I don't want to miss out on. I want to get more involved with the community since I did recently move here. I want to learn about the people in it and the working parts of it. And how that all works together. I want to make this community a better place to live in. I think being a part of something that is for the greater good would make me grow as a person and a leader. I would take away lots from it, as in friendships. I'm open to all friendships whether that's with the leaders or peers. I want to meet new people and learn about them and gain more knowledge about how to be a better leader from them. I learn a lot more by being hands-on and being a part of something like this is very hands-on. It really shows you what the community is like and how to make it better. Also with all the days coming up, I can learn a lot to help me with my future and what I want to do.

What's unique about you?

I got 4th place at the world championships for Highland dance. and also 3rd 2 times at the national championships for highland dance. Highland dance is a type of dance that originated in Scotland and I have done it ever since I was 4. It is a very competitive and intense type of dance. I had to sacrifice a lot to get to the level that I was. I practiced every day for multiple hours. It was very hard on my body but I kept working hard no matter what. I became very good and kept working. The world championships are in Scotland and it's where all the highland dancers of the world are allowed to compete to qualify for the world championships. I competed against the girls in my age group and came out number 4. It was a very relieving experience knowing that all my hard work paid off in the end. Also being able to get number 3 two times was an amazing experience.

What are some weaknesses you have/what are your weakness?

My greatest weakness is including others. Looking back before my move from Cincinnati, I notice that I didn't include others as much should have. But now, since I have personally gone through being left out in things. And not been invited to things since I was the new kid. I know what that feels like to not be included, and it doesn't feel good. I would definitely include people now if I saw someone sitting alone or feeling left out. When people started inviting me to events it felt really good and I want others to feel the same way I did. Just by inviting people to sit with you could change their whole day. You can make a huge impact on people just by including them. That's why I am still working on this weakness and improving it. Now I have a lot of empathy for people.

Who would you want to sit down with for lunch/who is your hero?

My hero has to be my great-grandfather. He was a very cool and amazing person. He was a veteran and also a Knights Templar. knights templars are a secret service where they helped people out for the better. He always did things for the greater good and helped many people out. He went to school until he was 80. He inspires me to keep going and also to continue to help people just as he did.

That's a very good question because time management is a skill that you will need throughout your entire life. Time management is very important to me because if I'm busy and have a lot going on things pile up. But if I have time management and get the things done that are the most important or critical I won't be as stressed. Between dance school and extracurricular activies, my schedule and pile up but, I like to use my calendar to write down important dates or tests coming up. I make sure to plan everything and be organized.

It shows the power of kindness and reading it has had a huge impact on me. It's made me a kinder person.
