Face

The flat surface of a 3D shape.

Vertex

The point where two sides meet.

Edge

Where two surfaces meet.

rectangular pyramid

a solid figure with a rectangle for its base and triangles for all other faces

Polygon

A 2-dimensional shape that has straight lines and is enclosed. Examples: triangle, square, rectangle, octagon, etc.

Circle

A 2D figure that is made with a continuous line which is always the same distance from the center.

Rectangular Prism

A 3-dimensional shape that has 6 faces, 8 vertices, and 12 edges.

Sphere

A 3-dimensional shape that has no faces, edges, or vertices.

Cube

A 3-dimensional shape that has: 6 square faces all equal in size, 8 vertices, and 12 edges.

Cone

A 3-dimensional shape with a circular base and a curved surface that come to a point (vertex).

Cylinder

A 3-dimensional shape with one curved surface and two congruent circular bases. It has no edges or vertices.

Octagon

A polygon that has eight sides and eight angles.

Pentagon

A polygon that has five sides and five angles.

Hexagon

A polygon that has six sides and six angles.

Triangle

A polygon that has three sides and three angles.

triangular prism

A prism that has triangular bases

Parallelogram

A quadrilateral (4 sides & 4 angles) where opposites sides are parallel. (Rectangle, square, and rhombus are parallelograms)

Trapezoid

A quadrilateral (4 sides & 4 angles) with one pair of parallel sides.

Rhombus

A quadrilateral with four equal sides and equal opposite angles.

Square

A quadrilateral with four equal sides and four equal angles. Opposite sides are parallel.

Rectangle

A quadrilateral with four sides and four right angles. Opposite sides are parallel and equal in length.

Rectangular Pyramid

A solid shape with a polygon as a base and triangular faces that come to a point (vertex or apex)

Side

Line segments of a polygon.

triangular pyrimid

Pyramid with a triangular base
