American slipped a piece of paper into his hand with a quotation from

Liddell was sent by the Japanese to an Internment Camp where
1,800 other internees were confined.
He married in

The Japanese invaded China and in
1940
worked in China during the time of the
Boxer Rebellion.
Liddell told his wife to take their children to
Canada
bout whom the Oscar-winning movie
Chariots of Fire
Liddell returned to
China
He was known as the
Flying Scotsman
On February 21, 1945, he began coughing uncontrollably, and as friends came to his aid, he lay back and uttered the words
It is surrender."
His family, originally from
Scotland
Liddell worked as a teacher at a school for Chinese boys at which he taught
chemistry and organized sports
After the Olympics, Liddell returned to China to work as a
missionary
