A&P LAB: Ex. 30: Blood Vessel Identification - MAJOR ARTERIES OF THE PELVIS & LOWER EXTREMITIES
Internal iliac arteries
MEDIAL terminal branches off common iliac arteries -Travel posteriorly until they divide in the pelvis
Anterior tibial artery
Travels to anterior surface of leg; descends to ankles where it becomes the dorsals pedis artery
External iliac arteries
LARGER terminal branch of common iliac arteries -Become FEMORAL ARTERY as it enters the thigh
Right & left common iliac arteries
Begin at the division of the abdominal aorta -Divide into: 1.) Internal iliac arteries 2.) External iliac arteries
Fibular (peroneal) artery
Branches off the posterior tibial artery & travels down LATERAL side of leg to the foot.
Popliteal artery
CONTINUATION of femoral artery; begins in POPLITEAL REGION -Ends in upper leg where it divides into: 1.) Anterior tibial artery 2.) Posterior tibial artery
Dorsal pedis artery (dorsal artery of the foot)
Continuation of the anterior tibial artery; begins in ANKLES & forms BRANCHES within the foot.
Femoral artery
Descends along middle of anterior 2/3 of thigh -Travels to POSTERIOR thigh, becoming the POPLITEAL artery as it enters the posterior knee area.
Posterior tibial artery
Descends along posterior aspect of leg & terminates at the ANKLE where it divides into: 1.) Medial plantar artery 2.) Lateral plantar artery
