what is nigers gdp trend
it grew from 2.9% growth in 2015 to 5.6% in 2016, yet was at 12% in 2014 - shows its volatile and not steady which means there was not real improvement - a few % rise is not enough to deem Africa as rising
what is wrong with African gdp growth
its not stable and hasn't made any real progress
why is technology a point of discussion
its used as a marker to show growth - people think because Africa has gone from 82 million mobile phone users to 772 million (2005-2016) that it is rising. - is mobile phone usage worthy of counting as quality growth or does it just indicate growth in consumption and the distorted priorities of people

summary of Africa rising
of course Africa is better than it was 10-15 years ago, and some countries have made great improvements in their own ways and both respectively niger and Nigeria have been successful in particular aspects. but the Africa rising narrative is so simplistic and generic and doesn't truly portray the real situation. the Africa rising narrative has set mediocre standards - as shown that these countries still have a lot to rise from. not to say it wont happen and cant be done, but right now the narrative is creating false statement that something is happening which is not and African countries are all different and diverse and more complex than to just group them all together in two words Africa rising
