The man is only the equal size because of his large headdress and large pedestal. However, the pair was meant to be even, equal, balanced, their shoulder meet. Poro Society is their religion that this sculpture is based on. One way to pray to the ancestors from the poro religion is to make a lot of noise, that is what the rhythm pounders do. A Senufo man would pick up these and pound them on the ground as hard and as fast as he could. by doing so, he is thought to be waking up the ancestors. These are messages. A chameleon is present on the mans headdress as well as the females side of her cap. Also present is the resemblance of the hornbill bird through the arches such as the breasts and jawline. Female has cross scarification on her stomach alluding to fertility, indicating where the baby would be. The woman is also holding a rattle which is essential to making noise and connecting to the ancestors. They are spiritual, they have no feet and they are raised up. The headdress the male is wearing is also the headdress that a priest from the Poro society would wear
