Aldosterone
Aldosterone: Hyposecretion
*Addison's Disease -Autoimmune destruction of the adrenal cortex
Aldosterone: Function
Causes kidneys to retain sodium to increase blood pressure, water retention
Aldosterone: Regulation
Stimulated by decreasing blood volume or blood pressure, elevated blood K+ levels, and ACTH Inhibited by increased blood volume and pressure, decreased blood K+ levles
Aldosterone: Production
Zona Glomerulosa
Aldosterone: Hypersecretion
• Condition called Aldosteronism •Typically results from adrenal neoplasms •Two major sets of problems 1) Hypertension and edema due to excessive sodium and water retention 2) Accelerated excretion of potassium ions that can lead to neurons becoming nonresponsiveness and muscle weakness
