Explain the language, religion and ethnicity differences between the states formerly a part of the Soviet Union.

The states formally a part of the Soviet Union have many different ethnicities and consist of 15 republics. The 15 republics have now become independent states.

Explain the concepts of a nation-state and self-determination

A nation-state is a state whose territory corresponds to that occupied by a particular ethnicity. Some of the concepts of nation-states are that ethnicities are most likely to form in nation-states. Also, self-determination is the concept that ethnicities have the right to govern themselves.

What are the differences between democracy, autocracy, and anocracy?

Democracy is when citizens elect leaders and can run for office. The people have a say in government. Autocracy is a government ran according to the interest of the rulers rather than the people. Anocracy is neither democratic or autocratic, but displays characteristics of both.

What is gerrymandering? what are the three different ways gerrymandering is done?

Gerrymandering is the process of redrawing legislative boundaries for the purpose of benefitting the party in power. One way gerrymandering is done is wasted voted spread supporters across districts. Another way gerrymandering is done is excess voted and concentrated into few districts. The last way gerrymandering is done is stacked votes are linked with like-minded voters into weirdly shaped boundaries.

Explain why it is difficult to determine whether some territories are states- giving at least one situation as an example.

It is difficult to determine whether some territories are states because of the size. Is there a size limit to states or territories? One of the largest land areas is Russia, while the smallest land area is Monaco. Also, some areas include aspects of sovereignty, but doesn't have every area controlled by the national government.

What are the different kinds of boundaries (both physical and cultural). Explain them briefly.

Some physical boundaries include deserts, mountains, and water. All of these things prohibit people from getting places. Some cultural boundaries include geometric boundaries, ethnic boundaries and religious boundaries,

How does the European Union work in the 21st century?

The EU expanded from 6 countries to 12 during the late 1900's. The main task is to promote development and are looking to expand the European Union. Free trade has been removed from this area to keep control of the "states."

Explain the three eras of rapid growth in the United Nations membership.

The three eras of rapid growth in the UN membership were 1955, 1960 an 1990-1993. In 1955, sixteen countries joined the UN after the Holocaust. In 1960, seventeen new members were brought into the UN. Finally, between 1990 and 1993, twenty-six countries were brought into the UN because of the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Describe the 5 different shapes of states.

There are 5 different shapes of states. One state shape is compact states. In compact states, the capital is the same distance from any part of the state. Another state shape is prorupted. Prorupted states have a large projecting extension. Another state shape is perforated. Perforated states are a state that completely surrounds amother state. Fragmented states are another shape of states. Fragmented states are discontinuous pieces of territory. Finally elongated states have long and narrow shapes.
