fred and Bob Cratchit have two different initial reactions to the new Scrooge. Explain why the men react differently.

Fred has grown up with his Uncle Scrooge and may remember how his Uncle acted when Scrooge was younger. Bob only knows Scrooge as his boss, and Scrooge's new behavior is inconsistent with the boss he remmbers.

How has Scrooge changed?

He dispSlays emotions (joy and sadness); he dances; he speaks kindly to others; he generously gives to oters.

Explain why the visions of the future would convince Scrooge to alter his life.

He doesn't want to be hated, and he doesn't want to die friendless and laughed at.

Scrooge says "I am not the man I was." What does he mean? What causes the change? How does the Spirits cause it?

He is a changed man meaning he was going to change his behaviors toward other people. He could give to the poor, show love. The spirits show him his past, present, and future, which he doesn't like so he resolves to change his ways. He doesn't like the laughing and mocking he sees in his future. He dies a lonely death, an no one misses him.

What does this final experience teach Scrooge?

He is taught to be kinder, more considerate, and caring toward others, or else he will die friendless and mocked.

How does Scrooge see the promise to honor Christmas all year a way to alter his present life?

He realized that spending time with loved ones and being joyful is showing the christmas spirit. if he does this, he will be liked by others and have a more enjoyable life.

STAVE 5 Question 1: What did SCrooge learn from each spirit?

Mr Scrooge was living a life of misery without even being aware just how awful he really was in "A Christmas Carol." Inorder to help Mr. Scrooge to betetr understand his need to change he is visited by three spirits. The first spirit takes him on a journey into his past. He sees himself as a child and he is happy. He remembers what it was like to have been a joyous young man with hopes and dreams. He learns what is missing in his life. The second spirit is Christmas present. He takes Scrooge to see how other people act and speak of him. He shows Scrooge the love that the Cratchets have for one another despite having no money. He also sees their need for help for their son, Tiny Tim. Scrooge learns to see the balance between money and family. The third ghost shows Scrooge all the non-blessings his choices have allotted him upon his death. He is not missed nor mourned by others. Instead, they express relief and joy at his death. He died alone and miserable. In contrast is Tiny Tim's death. The boy is missed and longed for by his family. Scrooge learns that if he does not change he will be the miserable man in the casket who no one loves or cares about. Overall the three spirits teach Scrooge to be a better man.

No, because he wouldn't have ever seen his mean ways, and he wouldn't have known the consequences for them.

Explain the new feelings Scrooge has for the door knocker.

Scrooge has new feelings for the door knocker because that is how Marley first appeared to Scrooge and started his adventure with the Spirits

At the beginning of Stave Five, Scrooge is happy that the "time" before him is his own. Why would time be so important to Scrooge?

Scrooge is anxious to begin changing his life. He could not make decisions or choices during the Spirits' visitations.

Why was Scrooge so pleased with all the sites and sounds of Christmas?

Scrooge's attitude toward Christmas has changed and he is happy that he has the opportunity to show others how he has changed.

Why is ch. 4 the most frightening for Scrooge? Why is the future more frighteing than the past? Is the future more frightening to him than the present?

The spirit was creepy. He was dark and scary. Because he is alive and thinks that it isn't important what others think about him. But as soon as he sees the future, the realizes he is hated and it bothers him. He also dies a lonely and pitiful death (he doesn't like this.) This does not have an answer to the 3rd question about the present----needs to be looked up
