Chapter 7: Exponents
Negative Exponent
A negative Exponent
Monomial
1 term
Power
A quantity that measures the rate at which work is done or energy is transformed
Constant
A value that does not change
Base
In mathematics, a base or radix is the number of different digits or combination of digits and letters that a system of counting uses to represent numbers. For example, the most common base used today is the decimal system. Because "dec" means 10, it uses the 10 digits from 0 to 9.
Scientific notation
Scientific notation is a mathematical expression used to represent a decimal number between 1 and 10 multiplied by ten, so you can write large numbers using less digits. An example of scientific notation is when you write 4 x 10³ for 4,000. YourDictionary definition and usage example.
Binomial
an algebraic expression of the sum or the difference of two terms.
Zero Exponent
any base with an exponent of zero is equal to one. For example: x^0 = 1.
Compound interest
interest earned on both the principal amount and any interest already earned
Exponential equation
sides by log 4 to get x by itself. ... Use a calculator to evaluate the logarithm and quotient on the right and you're done! Another kind of exponential equation has exponential expressions on both sides.
