Criteria
a set of standards that a solution must meet
Constructive conflict
a situation in which group members use their difference to discover the best idas
round table
a special panel discussion in which a small group of participants talk about a table, or in an open circle
Disruptive Conflict
a conflict that divides members into competing sides, which refuse to compromise to the point that no group discussion decision can be achieved
discussion
a cooperative exchange of information,opinions, and ideas
groupthink
a desire to go along with the group even at the possible cost of abandoning one's personal beliefs
town hall meeting
a discussion in which a group of citizens meets in a public place to discuss community problems and vote on possible solution
symposium
a formal discussion in which several experts present a variety of points of view in the form of short speeches, an open discussion between experts and audience may follow the speeches
Consensus
a nearly unanimous agreement among group members about a particular solution
Forum
a post-panel discussion in which panel members invite questions and comments from the auidence
bainstorming
a process in which group members offer their ideas as many as possible as quickly as possible as a way to encourage creative thought and solutions
competitive
an atmosphere that can foster divisiveness among members because they contend with each other as rivals, also the burden of a negative counter-plan to show that both the affirmative and negative proposals should not be adopted.
cooperative
an atmosphere that encourages members to work together toward a common end or goal
Panel
an informal discussion that takes place before an auidence
Questions of fact
question that ask group members to recall information that pertains to the questions at hand
Questions of evaluation
questions that ask group members to agree on possible solutions and to make a value judgment
Question of interpretation
questions that task group members to give their opinions on what the information means
Moderator
the person in a group who leads the disussion
