introduction

My name is Karis Brack. My report is about the cheetah. I chose the cheetah because it's in the cat family and I like cats. Cheetahs are known for their speed and how they look. Cats are also called felines. Cheetahs used to be found in Africa and Asia but now mostly in parts of Africa and a small part of Iran. My report tells us about cheetah's speed, behavior, and that they are an endangered species.

Point #3

Nearly all the wild cheetahs live in Africa. There may be less than 10,000 cheetahs left in the wild. The cheetah is Africa's most endangered big cat. In Asia they are nearly extinct. A mother cheetah has from 2-8 cubs per litter, but cubs are often killed by predators and do not survive past 1 year. The human population in Africa is taking more land for farming and the cheetahs don't have as much space as they used to. This means there may not be enough prey to eat. Some farmers kill cheetahs to protect their animals. Poachers kill cheetahs for their beautiful spotted skin.

conclusion

The cheetah is a beautiful animal. They can run very fast but sometimes that can be good or bad. It is good that they can run fast because they can get away from predators but running fast makes them tired and they get caught by predators. The males leave the females to take care of the cubs. Cheetahs can be saved by calling the police on poachers. You can give money to help save the cheetahs, also. If we don't save them they may not be around when I grow up.

Point #1

The cheetah is the world's fastest land animal. They can run 70 miles an hour. They move as fast as a car driving on the highway. A cheetah can run up to 600 yards and then has to stop because its heart beats too fast. It's too hot and too tired to run anymore. When this happens it is easy prey for a larger animal. Cheetahs often lose their kill to a larger animal. The cheetah's body is built for speed. They have long legs, a long tail, and a small head and short muzzle that helps it to go really fast. When cheetahs are running they use their tails to help them turn in the direction they want to go.

Point #2

Unlike most carnivores, cheetahs are active during the day. They like to hunt in the morning and afternoon. A cheetah eats small animals like birds and rabbits and small antelopes. Cheetahs use tall grass for camouflage while hunting. Cheetahs knock their prey to the ground and kill them by biting them in the neck and suffocating them. They eat quickly so larger animals like lions won't steal their food. Cheetahs like to stay to themselves. The males sometimes live with a small group of brothers and the females raise the cubs by themselves.
