Microscopic level

Items are so small that people can't directly observe them , the particles that make up the ice are very close together and aren't moving around very much

What is the hottest part of the flame? Explain. (Hint: The melting point of copper is 1083 degrees Celsius.

The top of the flame / tip of the second zone where the two zones meet. This is the place where hot air is combusting and releasing more heat. When you put the copper in this spot, it begins to melt which means it must be the hottest part and closer to the melting point (1083 degrees Celsius)

Applied Chemistry

Research that is directed toward a practical goal or application.

analytical chemistry

the area of chemistry that focuses on the composition of matter. Example: develop tests to detect chemicals in the blood. The tests help to show if organs in the body are working properly.

Energy

the capacity to do work or produce heat

pure chemistry

the pursuit of chemical knowledge for its own sake.

organic Chemistry

the study of all chemicals containing carbon. Example: athletes inhale chemicals developed by organic chemists to control symptoms of asthma.

Define in your own words what a chemical reaction is.

A chemical reaction occurs when substances combine to form a new substance. This new substance is chemical,t different from the originals, and it cannot be separated to revert to the original substance.

You see a bright yellow flame, what can you tell about the temperature of the flame and the mix air-gas?

A yellow flame is produced when the air vent is closed and the natural gas can only mix with the air at the top of the Bunsen burner. As a result, incomplete combustions occurs. A yellow flame transfers less heat energy than the blue flame , since the air vents is closed and the combustion {the process of burning something} is incomplete.

Matter

Anything that has mass and takes up space

The products of this reaction are usually carbon dioxide and water. Why you don't get to see any of the products of this combustion reaction?

Because they are gases. Their particles are too spread out to be seen since they are gasses according to the theory of particles in matter.

Physical Chemistry

The area that deals with the mechanism , the rate and the energy transfer that occurs when matter undergoes a change. Example: might study factors that affect breathing rates during exercise

Based on your observations, which type of flame is hotter: the flame formed when the air ports are open or the flame formed when the air ports are closed? Justify your answer.

The flame formed when the air ports are open are hotter. This is because before I opened the air vents on the Bunsen burner, nothing happened to the copper wire and I couldn't see the zones of the flame, therefore the colors weren't as bright. This leads me to believe that the flame wasn't as hot when the air vents were closed.

macroscopic level

The level at which you directly observe with your senses , a solid has a definite shape and a definite volume.

What is the name and chemical formula for the other chemical that reacted with methane gas. Explain where is this chemical coming from and why you cannot see it. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction

The name of the chemical that reacted with methane gas was oxygen. The chemical formula for oxygen is O2. Oxygen is coming from the air, and you can't see it because it is a gas , so it's molecules are too spread apart for one to be able to see. The balanced equation is CH4 {methane} + 2O2 {oxygen} ➡️ CO2 {carbon dioxide} + H2O {water}.

Inorganic Chemistry

The study of all chemicals that do not contain carbon. Inorganic chemist might explain how a lack of calcium can affect the growth and repair of bomes

Biochemistry

The study of processes that take place in organisms. Ex: might study how the energy used for the contraction of muscles is produced and stored

Chemistry

The study of the composition of matter and the changes that matter undergoes

If there is a shortage of the chemical that reacted with methane gas (refer to your answer to question 1a), the flame is not as hot and black, solid, carbon particles might be formed. How can you test for the presence of the solid black carbon? Which step in your technique shows this type of "cold" flame?

You would just wipe off the copper wire on something to see how much sut was produced in this chemical reaction. This is produced when a material gets burned , meaning that the black solid particles of carbon get transferred to the copper wire. The step that shows this is after I put the copper wire in the flame.
