CIS 125 Midterm
Systems Analysis and Design
The method of evaluating a currently working process or development of new processes in order to identify potential improvements, increase efficiency, and reduce bottlenecks in a way that aligns with the goals, mission, and purpose of the business
What are the 3 primary sources of system projects?
The three primary sources are: 1.) Systems request forms 2.) Stakeholders 3.) Industry trends and/or competitive forces
Project Charter
- A short high-level document prepared for both internal and external stakeholders to formally announce the establishment of the project
stakeholders
- A stakeholder is any person, organization, social group, or society at large that has a stake in the business
System request
- A standard form used for requesting systems development work/Asks type of request, urgency, and what the problem is
What is a deliverable?
- Is an item - either tangible or intangible - produced as a part of a project - The key deliverables are the most important deliverables and may have multiple tasks or smaller deliverables included in their production
Team Charter
- is a document that is developed in a group setting that clarifies team direction while establishing boundaries
In terms of project management, what is a milestone?
-It is an important event marked on a timeline and recognized when successfully reached/also act as checkpoints to see how the well the project is doing and if it is on schedule and budget
In proper sequence, what are the 4 phases of the SDLC?
-Planning, Analysis, Design, Implementation
What is the focus of project management?
-To assure that information system projects meet customer expectations -Delivered in a timely manner -Meet constraints and requirements
What is the systems development life cycle?
-is the entire process of formal and logical steps taken to develop an application -Broken into 4 phases (Planning, Analysis, Design, Implementation)
What is the major goal of systems analysis and design?
1.) Increasing speed 2.) Cost reduction 3.) Improve accessibility
What are the 4 components within a Baseline Project Plan?
1.) Introduction 2.) System description 3.) Feasibility assessment 4.) Management issues
What are the 5 components to every CIS
1.) People 2.) Procedures 3.) Data 4.) Hardware 5.) Software
Gantt chart
A chart/schedule that helps to plan, coordinate, and track specific tasks in a project
Project team
A project team is a team whose members usually belong to different groups, functions and are assigned to activities for the same project
What do we mean when we say we have a system problem?
A system problem is a malfunction in systems that negatively affects a previously-working production service that requires intervention
steering committee

Legal and Contractual Feasibility
Assessment of legal and contractual ramifications of new system
Technical Feasibility

Schedule Feasibility
Assessment of time-frame and project completion dates with respect to organization constraints for affecting change
What is the primary purpose of the feasibility study?
Feasibility studies aim to objectively and rationally uncover the strengths and weaknesses of an existing business or proposed venture, opportunities and threats present in the environment, the resources required to carry through, and ultimately the prospects for success
What is a Baseline Project Plan?
It is a short document prepared primarily for the costumer to clearly describe what the project will deliver and outline generally at a high level all the work required for completing the project
What is the purpose of a project scope statement?
Project managers use the Scope Statement as a written confirmation of the results your project will produce and the constraints and assumptions under which you will work
What is meant by scope creep?
Refers to changes, continuous uncontrolled growth in a projects scope, which happens when the scope isn't properly defined, documented, or controlled (constantly adding new features or expanding system and lose sight of the original goal)
Work break down structure
is a key project deliverable that organizes the team's work into manageable sections
What is a system project?
is a planned undertaking of related activities to reach an objective that has both a beginning and an end date
