Controlled Variables

Must be kept constant during the course of the experiment so that they cannot affect the outcome of the experiment

Experimental group

The group in an experiment that receives the variable being tested

Dependent Variable

The one variable that will be measured or counted or observed in response to the experimental conditions

Independent Variable

The one variable the scientist chooses to manipulate or change. The most important variable and the one that is actually testing the hypothesis. An experiment should never have more than one

Control group(s)

The group in the experiment that does not receive the variable being tested. Used to compare with the experimental group to show what the independent variable changed
