Describe the parts of a controlled experiment. Independent, dependent, controlled variables. Experimental vs. control groups
Controlled Variables
Must be kept constant during the course of the experiment so that they cannot affect the outcome of the experiment
Experimental group
The group in an experiment that receives the variable being tested
Dependent Variable
The one variable that will be measured or counted or observed in response to the experimental conditions
Independent Variable
The one variable the scientist chooses to manipulate or change. The most important variable and the one that is actually testing the hypothesis. An experiment should never have more than one
Control group(s)
The group in the experiment that does not receive the variable being tested. Used to compare with the experimental group to show what the independent variable changed
