TV Flat
Typically 4x12 with rails, stiles, and toggles made out of 1x3 on edge. No keystones or corner blocks are used and it is always hard covered, typically in 1/4" luan. Toggles are placed every 2ft.
Standard Flat
Typically 4x12 with rails, stiles, and toggles made out of 1x3 on flat. Keystones and corner blocks made out of 1/4" plywood and the skin can be muslin or fabric or it could be luan. Toggles are placed every 4ft.
Platform
Typically 4x8 made of 2x4 on edge. Toggles are, at most, 4ft apart and legs can be no more than 4ft apart. It typically has 3/4" plywood covering and 2x4 legs for height. 1/4" of masonite or MDF can be added for smooth top.
Stiles
go up the vertical length of flat, sits inside of rails
Toggles
goes across center of flat, is placed every 4ft on standard flats and every 2ft on tv flats, sits inside of stile
Rails
goes across the top and bottom, full length of flat doesn't need to account for other pieces
keystones
placed along the joint between the stile and the toggle, made of 1/4" plywood normally, used on standard flats.
corner block
placed on corner on joint between stiles and rails, made of 1/4" plywood normally, used on standard flats.
Internal stiles
used if the width of the platform is more than 4ft to support the luan, which come in sheets of 4ft. They sit inside the rails and toggles.
