What is the most important quality of lossless compression?

The data is transformed to usually make it smaller. It can always be re-constructed back to the original.

Assume your friend just sent you 32 bits of pixel data (just the 0's and 1s for black and white pixels) that were encoded after sampling an image. Choose the two statements that are true.

A. The correct width and height must be input into the pixilation widget to produce the image. B. The fact that only 32 bits were used to represent the image indicates relatively large sample squares were used. The digital image may vary from the analog image significantly.

Why should we care about information being represented digitally? How does this impact you personally?

Copyright issues affect everyone and it impacts me because some people might steal my work and not give me the credit for it.

Which of the following would result in a better digital approximation of an analog black and white image?

Decreasing the size of each sample square, thus increasing the number of samples taken.

Each time we add another bit, what happens to the amount of numbers we can make?

Every time we add a new bit it doubles

If you have a limited data plan and plan to send many audio/video files, what type of compression would you use? Why?

Lossy compression because video has a large amount of space in it so the computer reduces the space in it and many people won't really notice. Lossy is When you want to save data and lossless it's when it is important to send it perfectly.

How would you explain a number system to someone who had never seen numbers before?

I would present the numbers with one digit with symbols and then I will present the numbers with 2-digit numbers with 2 symbols.

How many bits would you need to count all of the students in class today?

If you have 12 students in class you will need 4 bits. 33 then you will need 6 bits

Modern car odometers can record up to a million miles driven. What happens to the odometer reading when a car drives beyond its maximum reading?

It goes back to 0 which means it overflowed

How is a Creative Commons license different from a regular copyright?

It's only different in name only, both allow share if you pay first.

Explain why a file size on a computer may show as 1000 bytes but when attached to an email message it reduces to 750 bytes.

Lossless compression because of it can come back to the original text message, the computer already compresses it so it can save some space.

When using bits to represent fractions of a number, can you create all possible fractions? Why or why not?

No because value is smaller than the place value or values in between other values and you can't create value smaller than your place value.

Write a brief response explaining whether you believe this statement is always true. Explain your reasoning.

No, because the binary numbers might represent a different thing such as a symbol, color, a letter.

Many museums have digital catalogs of their collections. What are the potential benefits and harms of creating these digital catalogs?

Provides information and allows for people to access to the artwork and it is decreasing website traffic. Harms are people might copy the image and use it in their website.

Which statement about analog and digital images is true?

Sampling an analog image more frequently produces a digital image with a better representation

What are the similarities and differences between the binary and decimal systems?

Similarities are both systems use the concept of place value, and in both systems, we can calculate each digit's value by multiplying the digit with the matching power of 2 and 10, the sum is the total value of the number. Difference are the decimal number systems uses 10 digits (0-9) and the binary systems uses 2 (0-1) digits. Another one each digit in the decimal number system corresponds to the power of 10, and binary corresponds to the power of 2.
