What is choose my plate and how does it differ from my plate?
Choose my plate is for younger people teens and children. My plate is for adults.
How does food choice affect food selection?
Food choices are specific foods that are convenient to choose when we are ready to eat and affected by cost and convenience. Cost can be a factor. People choose the same easy quick thing to eat for dinner.
How does food liking affect food selection?
Food liking is the food that we really like to eat. Food liking is what we like to eat so that could be chocolate cake but that doesn't mean that it's good for us. Our food selection is affected by food choices because if the only food choices that are around when we want to eat are junk food then we will eat junk food. Food preferences is also like how we are influenced by commercials on what to eat and buy.
How does food preferences affect food selection?
Food preferences are what we choose to eat when we have multiple choices and they all are the same quantity and at the same time. Food preferences can be affected by genetics, and culture. Genetically we may want sweet or salty foods.
What is Healthy eating plate, and how does it compare to the my plate?
Healthy eating plate gives more guidance to each category of foods eat daily. This is more for people who have diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. It includes only whole grain sources. It only recommends water or non sugar beverages.
Describe what organic means when found on a food package.
In order to be considered organic farms are inspected by government improved inspectors. Organic produce is when there aren't any pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, bio engineering, or radiation used when growing the produce. Farmers that grow organic food uses renewable resources and soil and water conservation to improve the environment. Meat and eggs etc are organic when no antibiotics or hormones are used in rearing the animal.Organic means that food is certified as fulfilling the USDA organic standards for farming and rearing of animals, not how the ingredients have been processed during manufacturing.
Define locus of control and how it relates to food choices.
Locus of control is the perception of one's ability to control life events and experiences. It relates to food choices because if you have an internal locus of control you believe that you influence things that you come into contact with you can guide your own life events. That means that you may make a basic plan of the types of nutritional foods that you purchase while shopping. External locus of control would be going to the store with a list and but are easily swayed by in store promotions, coupons, and colorful packaging. External locus are more often buy more than needed because it looked good.
What is the power plate, and how does it compare to the my plate?
My power plate is a vegan dietary pattern centered on plant based dietary intake.

Consider foods that contain the nutrients of which Americans need more (e.g., vitamin D, calcium, potassium, dietary fiber), along with foods that contain the nutrients Americans eat in excess (e.g., solid fats, added sugars, refined grains, sodium and saturated fats). How do the Dietary Guidelines for Americans address these issues?
The dietary guidelines direct us on how much of the different food categories we need and make sure we don't eat them in excess. Page 19. They look at the statistics about dieting, exercise, and health issues. Then they make a lifestyle and dietary pattern recommendation that promotes health, exercise, and nutrients. To achieve the current dietary recommendations they suggest eating low processed foods, portion size and eat more veggies, beans, fruits, nuts, seeds, and whole foods. Eat or drink more low fat dairy and moderate amounts of poultry, lean meat and eggs. Eat less foods that have added sugar.
How might the Nutrition Facts food label affect the food choices of consumers?
The food nutrition labels tell us the nutrients in the product so we can buy the product that works with our dietary nutritional needs. It can help make sure that we don't over eat because labels will tell us the serving size. People can choose healthier options when they know about the food they eat. Food labels also help the consumer choose the foods that fit into their diet and nutritional needs. Consumers can compare food choices.
what is the heritage diet pyramids and how are they different from the my plate?
The heritage diet pyramids are designed to help Mediterranean, Asian, Latino, and African heritages. The heritage diet pyramid differs from my plate in the amount of animals foods, legumes, and nuts, seeds, and fruits and veggies that are offered. Some countries have guidelines that reflect their food availability and beliefs.
What is the basic premise of my plate?
The my plate wants us to have dairy, fruits, grains, vegetables, and protein. Have a variety of food. Its purpose is to guide you to eat the foods and amount of those foods that fit in the dietary guidelines. Its also suppose to help you limit excess eating of certain foods.

You would find like steaks that say lean meat, or butter that is fat free, tuna that says low in sodium, hot dogs that are 25% less than reg hot dogs, popcorn can be more than usual serving of fiber, chicken noodle soup is a good source of vitamin A.

exchange is another word for list. It is a list that contains sizes of servings for food of that category. The exchange lists were first developed for use by people with diabetes. These list have also been adapted to meet the needs of weight reduction programs.
What are the criteria for determining whether newly published nutrition information and recommendations should be taught to patients?
look at the source of the advice, assess the comprehensiveness of the recommendations, evaluate the the basis of the recommendation, and estimate the ease of application.
Describe the implications of food consumption trends for the nutritional status of Americans.
more americans are eating out because it is quicker, cheaper. Things that affect the trend is cost, availability, knowledge, and time. Another factor is food desserts in places were there are food desserts there aren't easy access to food and stores. Cost of healthy fruits and vegetables have gone up because of production cost and increased energy, also because seasonal fruit is expected all year round. Cost and availability can be connected an example of this is food desserts and because if the food is available but is more expensive people choose the cheaper option.

other food guides are food pyramid, choose my plate, healthy eating plate, and power plate. My plate is more convenient because the person can just go online to it and enter their own data and they will get personalized guides to what to eat and portion sizes to each to meet their needs. The my plate is for adults.
