The rapid population growth also causes pollution and causes higher amounts of greenhouse gases. Runoffs from chemicals from farmers can cause environmental damage to the ocean as well.

It is a conflict because there have been problems (especially between Costa Rica and Nicaragua) when water projects have been started. Costa Rica took action and called United Nations and had the Nicaragua troops removed.
