azimuth

a compass direction expressed as an arc area clockwise from the north through 360 degrees

DMS Coordinates

divided the circle into 360 degree with each degree subdivided into 60 minutes (60'). and each minute further subdivided into (60")

GMT Greenwich Mean Time

former world standard time, now known as Coordinated Universal Time (CUT)

Parallel

A line connecting all points at the same latitudinal angle is called a parallel.

isogonal map

A map showing isogons

isogon

An isoline connecting points of equal magnetic declination.

Another parallel

Arctic circle

Local Sun Time

OR SOLAR TIME IS BASED ON THE ACTUAL LONGITUDINAL ARC DISTANCE ( IN DEGREE, MINUTES, AND SECONDS) BETWEEN A LOCATIOON AND THE PRIME MERIDIAN.

Other parallel

Tropic of Capricorn

scale

a map is a scale model of the ground. The scale tells the distances and sizes of things on the ground

Small Circles

are circles whose centers do not coincide with earth's center.

Antipodes

are points on the globe that are diametrically opposite each other that would be at either end of a line drawn through the center of the earth like the north and south Pole.

Prime Meridian

both the longitude is the name of the angle, meridian names the line and both indicate distance east or west of an arbitrary prime meridian.

Longitude

is an angular or arc distance east or west of a point on earth's surface measured from the center of earth.

Latitude

is an angular or arc distance north or south of the equator ( the line running east and west halfway between the poles, measured from the center of Earth.

Great Circle

is any circle of Earth's circumference whose center coincides with the center of Earth. An infinite number of great circles can be drawn on Earth.

Corresponding parallel

is the Tropic of Cancer

Meridian

names the line that connects all points at the same longitude.

Linear distance

spanned by a degree of longitude is greatest at the equator where meridians separate to their widest distance apart and diminishes to zero at the poles where they converge.

IDL International Date Line

the starting point for each new day. Since the Date Line is the standard (controlling) meridian for a time zone, no change in time occurs when crossing the line, only the date. (p10).
