Rewrite the equation for power in a way that shows what work equals.

(Force * Distance)/Distance

What amount of work do you do when you exert a force of 1 newton to an object a distance of 1 meter?

1 Joule.

What do you have to do in order for you to have to do work on an object?

It has to move a certain distance.

What is the SI unit of force?

Joules.

When you hold a bag of groceries is it work or not?

No work.

When you hold a heavy piece of wood in place is it work or not?

No work.

When you push on a car stuck in the snow is it work or not?

No work.

When you pull a suitcase with wheels why does only part of your force do work?

Only part of your force does work because your force has both a horizontal part and a vertical part. When you pull this way, only part in the same direction as the motion of the suitcase does work. That is because the rest of your force does not help pull the suitcase forward.

What is the formula of power?

Power= Work/Time

What two factors depend on the amount of work you do?

The force you exert and the distance that the object moves.

What is power?

The rate at which work is done.

True or False: You have greater power running up the stairs than you do when you are walking up the stairs.

True.

True or fasle: Lifting a heavier object demands greater force than lifting a lighter object?

True.

What is the formula to determine the amount of work you do?

Work = Force * distance

What is work?

Work is a force exerted on an object that causes it to move.

When you lift a bin or newspapers is it work or not?

Work.

When you pull a sled through the snow is it work or not?

Work.

When you pull the books out of your bag is that work or not?

Work.

How do you calculate work?

Work= force * distance.

Why do you not do work when you carry an object at a consistant velocity?

You do not do work on an object when you carry at a consistant velocity because you exert an upward force to hold the object so that it doesn't fall to the ground. The motion of the object however is in the horizontal direction. Since the force is vertical and the motion is horizontal, you dont do any work as you carry it.

In scientific terms when do you do work?

You do work when you exert a force on an object that cause the object to move some distance.
