What went wrong

A man called Lord monteagle had received a letter saying 'I warn you... To devise some excuse to shift your attendance at the parliament... They shall receive a terrible blow and yet they shall not see who hurts them...'

Torture

After two days of torture on the rack he gave his real name Guido Fawkes. After another two days he told his torturers that he was there to blow up parlianent. After another six days he told named the other plotters.

The punishment

All the survivors of the plot were hung draw and quartered.

Who was John johnson

Guy fawkes told his captures he was John johnson and he worked for Thomas Percy. He was taken before the king but refused to answer any questions. The king ordered him to be taken to the tower of london.

What did the king do to annoy catholics

In 1605 laws were passed against catholics. Catholic priests were ordered to leave England or face execution. A small group of catholics didn't like this and wanted a new king or queen.

Te capturing of guy fawkes

Just after midnight on November 5th, the cellars below parliament were searched. Guy Fawked was found, he was holding a lantern an with him a watch matches and a tinderbox in his pockets.

What did monteagle do with the letter

Monteagle immediately took the letter to Robert cecil, the kings chief advisor. Cecil took the letter to the king.

The plot

Parliament was to be opened on the 5th november. The king and the parliament would be blown up and his daughter Elizabeth would be seized and put on the throne.

The plan

Percy rented a cellar directly under parluament. Thirty six barrells of gunpowder were smuggled in and stored behind the piles of wood

The plotters

The leader was Robert catesby a devout catholic who gambled away his fortune. Tom and Robert winter Wright brothers (Chris and John) Thomas Percy Guido Fawkes an experienced soldier who was used to handling explosives. He would light the gunpowder.

Early in 1604 (the previous plot)

Thomas Percy rented a house next to parliament and tried to tunnel under parliament but the tunnel soon filled with water

The other plotters

When the others realised the plan hadn't worked they barricaded themselves in Holbeach house near Dudley. They tried to dry out some of the gunpowder near the fire place which then blew up leading the kings troops to them. Catesby and Percy were killed by one bullet, and the other ployters captyred and taken to London.
