How does stress affect your body?
Stress is damaging to the entire body. It stresses the heart. It increases blood clotting and blood pressure. Immunity is decreased. Sex and anti aging growth hormones also decrease. Meanwhile, stress hormones increase. There are correlations between stress and coronary artery disease, heart attacks, cancer, weight gain, infection, kidney failure, visions problems, nerve damage, infertility, insomnia, dementia, sexual dysfunction, premature aging, osteoporosis, addiction, depression, and much more. Stress can be horrible for the body! Stress results from an unnatural threat (which is called a stressor). The brain delivers nerve signals, telling adrenaline and noradrenaline to be released by the adrenal glands. Due to these hormones, there is an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, the amount of sugar in your blood stream, and more. Cortisol helps keep some of these things elevated until you are safe. Then, it helps restore homeostasis. Cortisol is released when the hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland to produce hormones. These tell your adrenal cortex to release cortisol.
