How to Use and Insulin Pen

STEP TWO

Check the insulin (name, exp date, amount and appearance).

STEP THREE

Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab. <*wash with soap and water for client in self-administer in private home*>

STEP SIX

Dial the dose and inject.

STEP FIVE

Prime the pen. (use 1 or 2 units and eject til you see insulin come out)

STEP SEVEN

Remove the needle from the pen and dispose of in sharps container. Put the cover back on the pen.

STEP ONE

Remove the pen cap.

STEP FOUR

Wipe pen with alcohol swab, then attach the pen needle and remove both caps.
