If your vehicle has been parked for a long time, get out and check behind. ALWAYS, do a 360 vision check.

What are some important things to remember when backing up?

This Means: You must let the traffic on the through road have the right of way. You may enter the intersection if there are no pedestrians, cyclists, or vehicles on the through road. However, you must slow down (and stop if necessary) and wait for a safe gap if there is traffic on the through road.

Yield Sign

the vehicle on the left must yield to the vehicle on the right. (The person on the right goes first)....

if two people arrive at an uncontrolled intersection at the same time...

the vehicle going straight through has the right of way...

if two vehicles arrive at an uncontrolled intersection at the same time, and are facing each other...

on a sidewalk or boulevard, within five meters or a fire hydrant, within six meters of a stop sign, traffic light, crosswalk, or intersection, within 15 meters of the nearest rail of a railway crossing, in a bicycle lane, or where your vehicle obstructs the visibility of a traffic sign...

It is illegal to park...

This Means: You may pass only when it is safe, and the broken line is on your side.

Broken Line & Solid Line

Sometimes, you will need to cross this lane to turn right, or to pull into the side of the road. Don't drive, stop or park here. You may only cross if the white line is broken or to turn into or out of a driveway.

Can you cross a bicycle lane?

This Means: The lane is reversible, and a lane control signal will show whether you may use this lane.

Double Broken Yellow Line

This Means: No passing allowed.

Double Solid Line

This Means: This lane is reserved for buses and carpool (high occupant) vehicles. Most HOV lanes operate 24 hrs a day, but some are only in operation at peak traffic times. Check the signs carefully.

HOV Lane

Yield to any traffic in the roundabout circle. If another vehicle arrives at the traffic circle at the same time as you do, yield to the vehicle if its on your right.

Rules of Driving in a Roundabout or Traffic Circle

This Means: Vehicles Traveling in either direction may pass when it is safe.

Single Yellow Line

This Means: You cannot change lanes.

Solid White Line

This Means: Drivers travelling in opposite directions share this lane for left for left turns...

Two Way Left-Turn Lane

1. Turn Signal (right) toward the car you're parking next to, and look over your shoulder to make sure it is safe before turning slightly toward the car that is parked. 2. Drive straight beside the parked car until your rear view mirror is lined up with the [parked] car's door handle. 3. Brake, and switch to reverse, while doing a 360 scan. 4. Ease off the brake while turning a full revolution to the right, until you can't see the curb anymore in your right view mirror. 5. Stay in reverse and turn your wheel all the way to the left until you are lined up with the curb. Once you feel that you are lined up and close enough, park, and put the emergency brake on.

What are the 5 STEPS to parallel parking?

Be Confident.

What is the number #1 rule when you're driving?

Switch to NEUTRAL, turn your wheels to the RIGHT, and let your car roll toward the curb... then PARK.

When parking downhill...

Switch to NEUTRAL, turn your wheels to the LEFT, and let your car roll toward the curb... then PARK.

When parking uphill...

after passing the last driveway, or side road before the one I am turning into - so that other drivers know my intentions and don't get confused.

When should I signal my turn?

✓ Shoulder check over your left shoulder ✓ Keep your vehicle in the left part of the lane ✓ Scan the intersection (look left-center-right, and left again to be sure that it is clear), ✓ Keep your wheels straight while waiting to turn, ✓ If you have to stop, re-check your mirrors and blind spots and take one more look for pedestrians before you move. ✓ As you gradually finish your turn, accelerate and straighten the wheels.

When you are turning left...

At intersections where there is a traffic light, where there is a sign prohibiting it, if it causes any interference with traffic, on a curve, on or near the crest of a hill (where you cannot be seen by other traffic within 150 meters), in a business district...
